A very special quilt comission

I was recently commissioned to make a bespoke king size quilt, the client was happy for me to take the lead with the style of the quilt so I jumped at the opportunity to experiment with some over-sized patchwork pieces - something I have been itching to experiment with since I started making and researching quilts.

I was very lucky to have the opportunity to photograph the quilt in this beautiful room before it went to it's new home!

I decided to keep things simple and stuck to a limited palette of blues which allowed me to have fun mixing and matching various prints. It took a few days of laying out the different patches on the studio floor (the only space big enough!) before deciding on finished composition.

Designing the stitch pattern for the top of the quilt took a whole day of experimentation and sampling but it was certainly worth it! Here is 'Matilda' the long arm quilting machine in action.

I am hoping to release more one off quilts in the not too distant future, as they are a fantastic way to use up off cuts from the studio and help us to continue on our mission to create as little waste as possible. In the mean time if you would like to talk about commissioning your own quilt get in touch!
